I'm Jawad with 1st Choice Movers. People ask me "when should I move?" almost as often as "what does it cost?" Jacksonville has no perfect month, but some trade-offs are easy to plan around.
Jacksonville's moving calendar, season by season
Late fall through winter (roughly November–February). Milder temperatures, less afternoon rain, and calmer crews and furniture. Holidays crowd some weeks, so book early around Thanksgiving and late December.
Spring (March–May). Very pleasant weather. Demand starts climbing as school's end and summer leases get close. Lock in your date early.
Summer (June–August). The busiest stretch for most movers. It brings heat, humidity and pop-up afternoon storms. Military PCS season also brings moves around NAS Jax and Mayport. Morning start times help.
Hurricane season (summer into fall). Most days are perfectly normal. You just need a backup plan if a storm forms.
How to choose your date
- Moving in summer? Ask for the first start of the day and keep water handy for everyone.
- Moving in hurricane season? Ask your mover how they handle rescheduling if a watch or warning is issued. Keep important papers in a go-bag rather than in the truck.
- Beach or condo move? Check your building's move windows. Some limit weekends or busy seasons.
- Closing on a home? Leave a buffer day. Florida closings and walk-throughs slip.
Local timing tips from our crews
- Bridge traffic on the Buckman, Fuller Warren and Dames Point adds time at rush hour. Mid-morning starts often move faster.
- Afternoon storms in summer are usually short. A good crew protects floors and furniture and waits out lightning rather than loading in it.
